This case requires us to address a number of important issues: the relationship between deceptive interrogation tactics used by law enforcement and the voluntariness of statements under the Fifth Amendment; the attachment of the right to counsel under the Sixth Amendment; and the applicability of the fundamental ambiguity and literal truth defenses in a false statement prosecution.
