Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland fails to produce sufficient hormones. Symptoms include fatigue, extreme sensitivity to cold, joint pains, muscle aches, and weight gain. Left untreated, victims eventually suffer hair loss, numbness in the limbs, depression, and mental confusion.
