Ralph John Peterson was driving a friend's car when he was pulled over for expired license tabs. After the officer learned Mr. Peterson's license was suspended, he impounded the vehicle. The officer searched the car and found a controlled substance. Mr. Peterson moved to suppress the evidence, arguing the impound was an unlawful search and seizure.
