Plaintiffs bring this infringement action on a patent that teaches a method for eliminating a particular type of interference ("direct pickup interference") used in the cable television industry. U.S. Patent No. 3,333,198 ("the Mandell patent") was granted to plaintiffs' predecessors in interest on July 25, 1967, and it expired in 1984.
