The defendants in these cases were arrested at roadblocks set up by the Concord Police Department to detect and apprehend drunk drivers. Each was charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor (DWI). RSA 265:82 (Supp. 1983). In advance of trial, both moved to suppress certain items of evidence, arguing that the use of the roadblocks by the police violated their rights under the State and Federal Constitutions.
