Defendant, Renee Morris, was originally charged by indictment with the first degree murder of her infant son, Michael Morris. Pursuant to defendant's motion to quash, the trial court ordered that the indictment be amended to accuse her of second degree murder. After a trial, Morris was convicted of second degree murder by a jury and sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of probation or parole for forty-years. La.R.S. 14:30.1...
