This suit, challenging the constitutionality of the "at large" system of electing school trustees in the plaintiffs' school district, was never brought to trial. After it had been pending almost four years, the Court issued an order staying proceedings in the case because the state legislature had enacted a bill that mandated the single-member district elections sought by the suit.
