WATSON, Justice.*

Defendant, Joel A. Vernon, was charged by grand jury indictment with first degree murder in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30. He withdrew his initial plea of not guilty and entered pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. Following trial by jury, he was convicted of the lesser included offense of second degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor...
