Ralls, was indicted by a grand jury for the crime of murder in the first degree in that he "wilfully, deliberately and premeditatedly did shoot one Barbara Howell ... in violation of section 53-9 [repealed by Public Acts 1969, No. 828, effective October 1, 1971] of the General Statutes of Connecticut."
