En banc hearings were separately held in two cases in order to consider fully the appropriateness of the standards of mental responsibility employed in determining the guilt of defendants charged with crime. In the one case, the Court applied the M'Naghten — irresistible impulse test. In the other, alternative findings were made within the American Law Institute's recommended formulation and in terms of the M'Naghten and irresistible...
