Appellant, Esteban Ruiz, was indicted for murder; the trial court found him guilty of the lesser-included offense of manslaughter,1 see TEX. PENAL CODE ANN. § 19.04 (West 2003), and assessed punishment at twenty years' imprisonment. See id. § 12.33 (West Supp.2010).
