After a trial to a jury, the parental rights between John and Mary and their biological son, Absalom,1 were terminated. The termination action was not instituted by any State agency but, rather, by Mrs. Smith (Mary's mother) and her husband, Mr. Smith (Mary's stepfather), as a predicate to an action for adoption.
