On July 16, 2007, Stephen Douglas James pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of fourteen. See Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 22.021 (West Supp.2007). The trial court accepted James's pleas, and the issue of punishment was submitted to the jury. The jury sentenced him to life imprisonment on each count.
