OPINION

We granted the defendant Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems, Inc.'s (MERS or defendant) petition for a writ of certiorari, which sought review of a Superior Court decision denying its motion for a protective order as to discovery sought by the plaintiff, Lina Cruz (Cruz or plaintiff).
