This criminal case requires us to determine the circumstances, if any, that permit a trial court to empanel an anonymous jury.1 Defendant was charged with several sex crimes. At the outset of trial, the trial court ruled that the names and certain other personal information of prospective jurors would not be disclosed to the parties, counsel, or the public.
