Initially, there was overwhelming evidence supporting the jury's finding that the attack on May 8, 2009 by defendant and his accomplices was the cause of the victim's death on May 12, 2009. Eyewitnesses and surveillance video established that they hit the victim repeatedly in the head, including defendant's assault on him with a tire iron.
