In 1995, petitioner was convicted of numerous crimes, including two counts of burglary in the first degree, two counts of rape in the first degree and two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. The convictions stemmed from incidents in 1988 and 1990 in which petitioner allegedly broke into the homes of two women, threatened them with weapons, and handcuffed and raped them.
