In 1979, petitioner was convicted of a number of crimes, the most serious of which was murder in the second degree, after he drove an associate to a hotel to commit a robbery and a police officer was fatally shot during the commission of the crime. Petitioner thereafter was sentenced to an aggregate term of 20 years to life in prison. In June 2011, petitioner reappeared before the Board of Parole seeking to be released to parole supervision.
