The plaintiff Pauline Coma (hereinafter the injured plaintiff) allegedly was injured when she tripped and fell on a raised portion of the sidewalk on Hoyt Street in Brooklyn. The injured plaintiff and her husband, suing derivatively, subsequently commenced this action against the defendant City of New York alleging that the accident had been caused by its negligent failure to maintain and repair the sidewalk.
