Martin Goldberg (hereinafter decedent), a parole officer, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and stopped working in December 2006. A month later, he applied for various benefits, including disability retirement benefits pursuant to Retirement and Social Security Law article 15. Decedent's application was acknowledged by a January 31, 2007 letter from the New York State and Local Retirement System that advised him he needed to submit additional information...
