In 2002, plaintiff entered into a contract with defendant, an architectural and design firm, to design an upgrade and expansion of one of plaintiff's hospital buildings. One of the purposes of the upgrade was to improve the building's ability to withstand a seismic catastrophe such as an earthquake or wind event.
