This proceeding was commenced by a petition seeking to appoint a guardian for a person under the age of 21, but over the age of 18, pursuant to Family Court Act § 661 (a), for the purpose of facilitating an application for special immigrant juvenile status under federal law, which, in turn, would enable the ward to apply for lawful permanent residency in the United States.
