Defendant was indicted and convicted of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree. The charge stems from his arrest in a dance club in Manhattan after a club employee observed him give a patron a pill of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (a hallucinogenic drug more commonly known as ecstasy).
