This appeal stems from a jury's conviction of Jason Meduna on 145 counts of cruel neglect of an animal pursuant to Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-1009(1) (Reissue 2008), a Class IV felony. The charges arose after feral horses and burros acquired by Meduna were discovered in extremely poor conditions at his "3-Strikes Ranch Mustang Outpost" (3-Strikes Ranch) near Alliance, Nebraska.
