In 1998, Sheri Fhuere was sexually assaulted and killed in her home in North Platte, Nebraska. Michael E. Long and Jay D. Amaya were arrested and charged in connection with the crimes. Amaya entered pleas of no contest and was convicted on one count of first degree murder, one count of use of a knife in the commission of a felony, and one count of sexual assault.
