¶ 1. In 2011, Mickey Vernon Hancock was convicted in the Pike County Circuit Court of armed robbery and sentenced to life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC). Hancock soon filed a motion for a judgment notwithstanding the verdict (JNOV) or, in the alternative, a new trial. The circuit court denied the motion. Hancock appealed. His appeal was assigned to the Mississippi Office of Indigent Appeals (MOIA)...
