¶ 1. A jury in the DeSoto County Circuit Court found Manual Cooper guilty of the crime of false pretenses. The trial court sentenced Cooper as a habitual offender pursuant to Mississippi Code Annotated section 99-19-83 (Rev.2007) to life without eligibility for parole or probation. The trial court subsequently denied Cooper's motion for a judgment notwithstanding the verdict (JNOV) and motion for a new trial. Cooper is presently incarcerated...
