ROSS, Judge.

This appeal requires us to decide whether Hennepin County was the proper venue for the state to prosecute Douglas Pierce for violating an order for protection by sending a message electronically to his former girlfriend. The state charged Pierce in Hennepin County with violating the Domestic Abuse Act, Minn.Stat. § 518B (2008), and the district court found him guilty after a bench trial.
