In this case, we are asked to determine whether the trial judge's decision to exclude two spectators from the courtroom during the testimony of a witness, at the trial of Kenneth Longus, violated his Sixth Amendment right to a public trial. In resolving that question, we must consider whether the "substantial reasons" standard for partial courtroom closures1 or, instead, the "overriding interests" standard for courtroom closures...
