The victim, Neil Olsen, died as a result of blunt force trauma and multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by the defendant's son, the victim's stepson, on the evening of January 9, 2005. Thereafter, in connection with this killing, a jury convicted the defendant of murder in the first degree, as a joint venturer, on the theories of deliberate premeditation and extreme atrocity or cruelty.
