Defendant, Bryce W. Perkins, was convicted by a jury of second degree murder after being indicted by a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury. The trial court then granted Defendant's motion for post verdict judgment of acquittal, which requested a reduction to manslaughter, a violation of La.R.S. 14:31. Defendant then waived sentencing delays, and the court sentenced him to thirty years at hard labor, the first twenty without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension...
