The defendant was charged with theft over $500.00, a violation of La.R.S. 14:67. As part of a plea agreement with the State, the defendant pled guilty to theft over $500.00 and, in a separate docket number, an unrelated bail jumping charge.1 For the theft charge, the trial court imposed a sentence of seven years at hard labor with a fine of $1,500.00, as well as restitution in the amount of $4,898.90.
