The defendant, Rodney Wayne Macon, appeals from a trial court ruling on his post conviction relief application to correct an illegal sentence. For the following reasons, we amend the defendant's sentence with instructions.

On May 8, 1980, the defendant was convicted of aggravated rape which he committed when he was 16 years old. Under the law in effect at that time, the defendant was sentenced to serve life in prison without benefit...
