On September 26, 2006, the Jefferson Parish Grand Jury indicted defendant, Alvin C. Hyman, on one count of second degree murder, in violation of La. R.S. 14:30.1. Defendant pled not guilty at arraignment.

Defendant was tried by a twelve-person jury on January 13, 14, and 15, 2009. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of the lesser-included charge of manslaughter, a violation of La. R.S. 14:31. On March 6, 2009, the trial court sentenced...
