Defendant, Wilkes Laird, was convicted by a jury of attempted manslaughter, in violation of La. R.S. 14:27 and 14:31, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of La. R.S. 14:95.1. He was adjudicated a second felony offender, pursuant to La. R.S. 15:529.1, and sentenced to thirty years at hard labor, without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence on the attempted manslaughter conviction, and to fifteen years...
