The defendant, Sylvester Mead, was adjudicated a third felony habitual offender pursuant to La. R.S. 15:529.1(A)(1)(b)(ii). He was sentenced to the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. The trial court held a hearing pursuant to State v.
