The state charged defendant with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in violation of La.R.S. 14:95.1. On October 19, 2005, a Terrebonne Parish jury rendered a verdict of guilty as charged. Thereafter, defendant filed a motion for a new trial claiming, inter alia, that his trial attorney had rendered ineffective assistance of counsel in failing to call two witnesses, Marcus Stoves, a lifetime friend of defendant, and Chandra Lewis, defendant...
