Phillip Baptist pleaded no contest to the off-grid crime of rape of a child under the age of 14. The district court imposed a hard 25 life sentence under Jessica's Law, K.S.A. 21-4643(a)(1)(B), meaning Baptist would only be eligible for parole after serving 25 years in prison, and also imposed lifetime postrelease supervision. Now, on direct appeal, Baptist raises three sentencing issues.
