Jason L. Jones' girlfriend left her 4-year-old son in Jones' care while she went to work. While in Jones' care, the child suffered a multitude of injuries which resulted in the child's death. The blows to the child's body, which were characterized by a medical expert as an assault rather than an accident, resulted in the child's skull being fractured and his liver being torn in half.
