Michael Mattox was convicted of aiding and abetting second-degree murder after he gave his loaded gun to Robert Gigger, who shot the victim, John Lane—immediately after Mattox said that Lane deserved to be shot at. After Mattox's conviction was upheld on appeal, he brought a habeas corpus action contending that some of the evidence against him would have been thrown out had his appellate lawyer made a better...
