OPINION

BRADFORD, Judge.

While conducting a traffic stop, an officer discovered that Sharmain J. Smith was driving while intoxicated. The officer placed Smith under arrest and then conducted a search of Smith's vehicle. During this search, the officer discovered open beer bottles and a handgun. Smith was charged with numerous crimes, including illegal possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
