Justice MASON delivered the judgment of the court, with opinion.

¶ 1 Following a jury trial, defendant Daniel Wlecke (Wlecke) was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration Act (730 ILCS 150/1 et seq. (West 2010)) (the Act) and sentenced to 22 years in prison.
