Justice McBRIDE delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a bench trial, defendant, Bryant Jones, was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to 22 years' imprisonment. On appeal, defendant contends that the State failed to prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. For the reasons that follow, we reduce defendant's conviction and remand for resentencing.
