Defendant, Michael J. Calabrese, was convicted of first-degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(3) (West 2004)) on January 18, 2008, after a jury trial. He was sentenced to 45 years' imprisonment plus an additional 25 years pursuant to the mandatory add-on for using a firearm (730 ILCS 5/5-8-1(a)(1)(d)(iii) (West 2004)).
