Following a jury trial in October 2006, in the circuit court of Will County, defendant, Brian Nelson, was convicted of 16 counts of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(1), (a)(2), (a)(3) (West 2002)), four counts of home invasion (720 ILCS 5/12-11(a)(1) (West 2002)), and four counts of aggravated arson (720 ILCS 5/20-1.1(a)(1) (West 2002)).
