Defendant, Carlos Frias, was driving to work with his girlfriend, Alma Rivera, who was the only passenger. A police officer stopped defendant for speeding, and defendant was arrested for offenses unrelated to this appeal. The arresting officer directed Rivera to exit the vehicle, and she did so, carrying her purse. After a search of the car disclosed nothing, the officer emptied Rivera's purse and found what appeared...
