Justice LYTTON delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial, defendant Anthony Johnson was convicted of attempt robbery and aggravated battery (720 ILCS 5/8-4(a), 1801(a), 12-4(b)(8) (West 2000)). The trial court sentenced him to eight years in prison. He appealed, and we reversed and remanded for a retrospective hearing to determine whether it was necessary to require defendant to wear an electronic security belt as a restraining device at trial.
