Justice LYTTON delivered the Opinion of the court:

Defendant entered into a negotiated plea of guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and reckless discharge of a firearm. Pursuant to the plea agreement, the trial court recommended defendant for impact incarceration. Defendant filed a postconviction petition alleging that (1) his trial counsel, a Will County assistant public defender, was ineffective for failing to quash his outstanding warrants
