Ceneca Johnson was arrested for robbery. He waived his right to counsel and elected to represent himself. The district court appointed standby counsel for Johnson. At the trial, the district court repeatedly told standby counsel he could not assist Johnson unless Johnson asked standby counsel for assistance.
