This civil rights action against the New York City Police Department ("NYPD"), complaining about certain surveillance and intelligence-gathering conduct, was filed in 1971. This Court certified the suit as a class action in 1979, and in 1986 approved a settlement agreed upon by the plaintiff class and the NYPD.
